Fire Retardants and Additives

The TranSpec Analyser is shipped with a number of measurement models for simple analysis of common organic and inorganic fire retardants and polymers. Individual measurement models for actual materials used are readily constructed.

TranSpec is also suited to analysing a range of additives in concentrations greater than about 0.1% by weight. These may include:

  • Light stabilisers
  • Antioxidants
  • Plasticisers
  • Process aids

The TranSpec Analyser is designed to analyse an ever widening range of compounds such as commodity thermoplastics and resins, polyethylenes, polypropylenes and engineering thermoplastics and blends such as PC, ABS, PC-ABS, HIPS and PPO used in electrical and electronic products, automotive manufacture, built environment and mass transport seating to mention just a few. An added advantage is its ability to measure non plastics compounds providing accurate inorganic compound identification and measurement.

How It Works

Using the TranSpec Analyser, the drawbacks of current analytical procedures are swiftly overcome. Previously, samples needed to be dissolved and tested using liquid chromatography and other wet chemical methods. TranSpec can undertake the analysis with no materials preparation, avoiding the errors common to wet chemical methods and examines the additives directly within the polymer.

By working rapidly and more reliably TranSpec offers efficiency and cost savings that are essential in formulation and production environments. The capability to perform rapid polymer analysis in real time is a key strength of the TranSpec Analyser which is especially advantageous where the compounding of polymers is undertaken in batches. The early identification of errors in concentrations and mixing uniformity, using the TranSpec Analyser, means expensive rework, scrappage and delivery delays are avoided.

By being portable the TranSpec Analyser can be used anywhere; in the laboratory, factory or warehouse. The TranSpec Analyser uses advanced Raman spectroscopy techniques eliminating the need for sectioning or dissolving

samples. It is also possible for an in line probe to be positionedin the extruder, to check the correct mix and concentration before extrusion.

The TranSpec Analyser comprises the portable analyser, measurement probe and TransChem instrument control and measurement software.

The TranSpec Analyser comes with training, on site set up and is ready calibrated for a number of brominated and phosphorus fire retardants in some common polymers.

Flexible purchasing terms are available with delivery times of approximately 12 weeks.

An advanced technical support and training package is available. This includes 10 days calibration consultancy, detailed training on gathering, sampling and performing measurement model building calibrations.

GnoSys offers ongoing support and specialist services for undertaking enhanced materials measurements and bespoke reporting.
