Databases

Mapping - Extracting the relevant metrics from a wide range of databases is vital for baseline information and revealing trends. Utilising information sources such as the Office of National Statistics (ONS) has allowed sizing of industrial sectors by SIC code, turnover and employee numbers. Regional mapping – linking this information to postcodes - reveals sector hotspots, and quickly ascertains the regions strengths and weaknesses.

Public bodies - GnoSys has successfully worked alongside government departments, public bodies, such as Defra and the RDAs, consulting in Environmental issues. These projects have been awarded through a tendering process to meet financial and time restraints and have involved networking and accumulating knowledge from a wide range of UK, European and international sources. The projects have been used to build knowledge for the potential and viability of technologies and regions to sustainable issues.
Industry - GnoSys has worked alongside industry to understand technologies and markets that are rapidly developing in the area of sustainability and environmental performance. GnoSys can work as closely or independently as required to tailor to client needs.
Steering Groups - GnoSys have chaired and co-ordinated the running of steering groups such as Sustainable Use of Materials for Electronic and Electrical Products network (SUMEEPnet) which brought together leading figures in sustainability of electrical and electronic products (EEP) from academia, industry and public bodies including both manufacturers and recyclers such as Sony and Axion Recycling. The Steering Group met approximately every 3 months and was responsible for providing guidance and support for ongoing and future network activities to identify and prioritise the challenges facing the sustainable use of materials and resources in the EEP sector and find effective solutions.

Market Development Studies

Flame Retardant Technologies with Defra

GnoSys is currently engaged with Defra to review the available technologies for achieving flame retardant properties in key product groups, and to determine best practice in terms of achieving appropriate safety standards with minimal environmental impact.
